We are on the verge of saying goodbye to 2018 and welcome 2019. Some great innovations and design in the smartphone market became reality in 2018 and the trend seems to be growing in 2019 as well. Some of the key technologies that we are looking forward to are like, Full Display, increased cameras set up, foldable smartphone, etc. In this article, we are going to talk about the five technologies that will change the smartphone market in 2019.

Full-Display devices

We have seen the innovation of notch becoming common in the smartphone in 2018, which was stared with Apple iPhone X and then it went to become the waterdrop notch to give the extra space on the smartphone.

After the notch ruling in 2018, 2019 will be the year of full-screen display. Technology is expected to become the biggest trend in the smartphone market. We have seen companies like Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi, Honor, and Lenovo bringing the same with a different technique. Some of them has used the technology of auto slider camera pop-up while some of them used manual sliding of front camera. Recently Vivo has launched the smartphone with front and back display to achieve the full-screen display on Vivo NEX2. It will be interesting to see which design will become the trend in 2019.

Increased rear camera setup

In 2019 dual camera for flagship devices will not be sufficient. We have seen the smartphones making the way with triple cameras in late 2018 and Samsung has already launched the world’s first smartphone with quad camera setup. As per the reports even in Xiaomi’s upcoming flagships, Xiaomi Mi 9 and Mi Mix 4 will come with 3 cameras setup. So, 2019 will be about the number of cameras count along with MP.

In-display fingerprint sensor

Technology, which saw a great demand in 2019 and flagships where started being evaluated with this technology, we have seen companies like OnePlus, Vivo, Oppo and more to adopt the technology in their flagship in 2018 and this trend will rule in 2019.

As per the reports Samsung Galaxy A50 is going to be the first smartphone under the brand to come with in-display fingerprint sensor.

Foldable smartphones

After teasing to launch for the past couple of years, it’s clear that 2019 will be the year of the foldable smartphones from the Samsung Galaxy X (or is it the Galaxy F) to rumoured Moto RAZR reboot and a flexible LG phone, everyone seems to be taking a crack at foldable displays next year. I’m not entirely sure which market these super-expensive phones are likely to target, so let’s wait and watch how these new form factors unfold.

Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning

2019 will see Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning becoming so mainstream technologies, it won’t even find a noteworthy mention in the marketing materials of your next smartphone AI and ML will be all-pervasive, powering a diverse set of smartphone experiences. From making your camera more intelligent and optimising your battery to learning your usage patterns and being able to suggest apps, content, and services when you need them, smartphones and digital assistants will finally start getting “smart”.

We have seen these technologies empowering some of the Smartphone in 2018 and trend says they will be frontrunner in 2019 smartphones.
