MediaTek has launched the new MediaTek Helio P70. Smartphones sporting the new Helio P70 are set to be unveiled in just a couple of weeks. If earlier rumors are any indication, then Xiaomi could be one of the first OEMs out of the gate with an Helio P70 device.
According to the press release, the octa-core P70 will boast enhanced AI processing that should make it more competitive with this year’s Apple A12 Bionic and Huawei Kirin 980 in the iPhone XS Max and Mate 20 Pro, respectively. Called NeuroPilot, the improved AI enhancements promise 10 to 30 percent faster processor performance over the P60 with support for real-time face recognition not unlike on current popular flagships.
Built on TSMC’s 12nm FinFET process, the new chipset comes with a multi-core APU (AI processing unit) clocked at 525MHz to enable efficient AI processing. The chipset features an octa-core CPU in big.LITTLE configuration. It has four ARM Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.1GHz and four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2GHz. The CPU and APU offer 30 percent boost in performance compared to its predecessor, the Helio P60. The CPU is paired with an ARM Mali-G72 GPU that runs at a maximum clock speed of 900MHz, which is 13 percent faster compared to the Helio P60 SoC.
“The introduction of Helio P70 continues MediaTek’s commitment to meet consumer demand for high-end smartphone capabilities at an accessible and affordable price point. With its dedicated AI processor that works seamlessly across the CPU and GPU, the MediaTek Helio P70 delivers much faster performance for AI applications, while still being extremely power efficient. The high-performance design, combined with enhanced connectivity and cutting-edge camera specs, makes the Helio P70 ideally suited for New Premium devices that meet consumers’ needs,” TL Lee, General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communication business unit said in a press release.
