Xiaomi’s sub-brand Poco launched its flagship smartphone Poco F1 in India at a price of Rs. 20,990 for the base variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. The 6GB RAM/ 128GB has a price tag of Rs. 23,999, while the 8GB RAM/ 256GB storage variant is priced at Rs. 28,999. An Armored Edition has been priced at Rs. 29,999. The Pcophone has been globally launched recently.
The Poco F1 is lacking one of the biggest feature of current generation flagship phones, as per reported by Android Pure, Smartphone does not support the HD video streaming on Netflix.
Explaining about the fact site wrote “You see, Netflix requires Widevine support for streaming. But there is something else you should know, there are different levels of certification, such as L1, L2, and L3.”
For those who are new to the term Widevine, “WideVine is a leading encryption scheme for securely licensing, distributing and protecting playback on video on any consumer device. In simpler terms, WideVine certification prevents the piracy of video content. Think of it as a kind of very secure encryption-decryption standard. There are three levels to WideVine which are L1, L2, and L3. Devices that support WideVine L1 can play HD content, but in the case of the Poco F1, the phone has support for only WideVine L3, which means it can play content only in SD (standard definition).”
To stream HD videos, i.e., 720p or above, Widevine L1 is required. Unfortunately, the Poco F1 does not support Widevine L1 DRM. It is certified for L3. Also, HD quality videos from other streaming services such as Amazon Video, Hulu, BBC, all the major players rely on it.
This is the same mistake what OnePlus has done with the launch of OnePlus 5T. Not supporting the HD Video streaming is a basic lapse from the company on the device.
The phone has a 6.18-inch full-HD+ (1080×2246 pixels) panel with an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, together with 8GB RAM and 256GB expanded storage.
The main camera layout entails a 12MP along with a 5MP AI dual camera setup. The primary 12MP camera is a Sony IMX363 ƒ/1.9 and 1.4-micron Dual Pixel Autofocus with HDR, Multi-frame Noise Reduction and AI scene detection with the usual Beautify and portrait options. The front camera is 20MP with a 1.8-micron pixel “4-in-1 Super Pixel” sensor a ƒ/2.0 aperture HDR, AI scene detection, AI Beautify, AI portrait mode along with Face unlock using Infrared illuminator and an infrared camera essentially allowing for Face unlock to work in low light.
