After teasing the Vivo APEX 2019 yesterday, Vivo has finally launched the concept phone in China. The biggest feature of the smartphone is it comes without any port or buttons. It was quickly overshadowed by the Meizu ZERO also with no buttons.
This innovation is interesting to check as it unique and not many players are in the market. This trend was missed by the tech community as we were busy in evaluating the no of cameras and full-display.
Vivo APEX 2019, features touch-sensitive buttons against physical one in normal devices. There is also a “high-definition” linear motor to provide haptic feedback when using the buttons. It also comes with a screen fingerprint technology that works on any part of the screen. It doesn’t feature a charging port instead, it has some metal grooves at the back which can be used to charge the phone wirelessly.
The device is powered by a Snapdragon 855 chipset, has 256GB or 512GB of storage, 12GB of RAM and 5G – the last two are firsts for vivo. The 6.39-inch AMOLED display of the vivo Apex 2019 doubles as the speaker by using a piezoelectric transducer to emit sound. It’s surrounded by very thin bezels with no sight of a selfie camera.
What’s more interesting is the Full-Display Fingerprint Scanning – you can touch almost anywhere on the screen to unlock via the in-display fingerprint scanner – this would make it the most-advanced in-display fingerprint scanner out there.
The APEX 2019 demonstrates that possibility of a future of phone that are very simple yet with enhanced usability. The idea of a Super Unibody design brings the smartphone aesthetics to a different level. Vivo knows design and innovation, after all, it is the first company to roll out a commercial phone with a working in-display fingerprint scanner.
This time, Vivo is trying a Full Display tech, still with fingerprint scanning. According to Vivo, the sensor covers almost the whole display. This means you can unlock the phone from any part of the screen. Now that’s a step ahead of the others once again.
Vivo is adopting Touch Sense technology. There will be no physical buttons available because the touch sense is enough. Ports are gone as well because some of them have been replaced. Instead of a USB port, there is the MagPort which is a new magnetic power connector. This one allows data transfer and charging.
As for the speaker, you won’t see any hole or speaker grill because of the Body SoundCasting technology. This makes the display work as a speaker as made possible by the screen vibration function.
Vivo’s 5G technology doesn’t just allow fast mobile Internet. Vivo says it combines AI, augmented reality, virtual reality, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Vivo will work on standardization with all these tech in mind so we can expect a more seamless experience between and among more mobile devices.
VIVO is expected to showcase the Vivo APEX 2019 at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC 2019) in Barcelona.
