Xiaomi is all set to launch the new flagship of the year in October, yes, we are talking about Mi Mix 3. Until now, everything heard about the Mi Mix 3 were rumours, unconfirmed by the company. But looks like, there’s some sort of confirmation coming from Xiaomi’s side now.
Xiaomi President, Lin Bin took to the Chinese microblogging site Weibo on Thursday, to post a picture of the upcoming Mi Mix 3.
The whole pop-up camera business started with the Vivo Nex, followed by Oppo Find X which was a quick response and an impressive design with good looks. Now, the Honor Magic 2 is also expected to feature a pop-up camera with Xiaomi following lead.
Going unconventional in terms of front camera placement is not new for Xiaomi, as far as Mi Mix series is concerned. The predecessor, Mi Mix 2 which was launched last year, has a selfie camera at the bottom right. To take a picture, you either have to either hold the phone slightly up or turn the phone upside down.
Besides the sliding camera, the phone has extremely thin bezels. At blame here is the fact that more and more people want bigger displays and hence absolutely thin to no bezels. At the same time, a selfie camera is inevitable.
This is what is leading companies to build odd phones with weird designs because the consumers have demands like a kid in a sweet shop. They want everything. Compromise is not an option.
The Mi Mix 3 will be the first Xiaomi phone to come with camera slider. Bin has also revealed that the Mi Mix 3 is coming this October.
Specifications of Xiaomi Mi Mix 3
Previous reports have suggested that the Mi Mix 3 could come with wireless charging support and include an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 could feature Samsung’s 2K AMOLED display. The display is said to utilise COP packaging technology. The phone could be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 SoC. In terms of camera, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is said to equip a 20MP front-facing camera sensor.
It is expected in four RAM/storage options – 6GB RAM/64GB internal storage, 6GB RAM/128GB internal storage, 8GB RAM/128GB internal storage and 8GB RAM/256GB internal storage. Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 will run Android 8.1 Oreo OS with the company’s proprietary MIUI 10 skin on top, as per reports.
Notably, Xiaomi launched the Mi Mix 2S in March this year which was a reiterative upgrade of the Mi Mix 2. The phone featured a similar design to its predecessor. However, Xiaomi incorporated dual rear camera sensors, wireless charging, Snapdragon 845 SoC and ARCore support to the Mi Mix 2S.
